Panel "PANORÁMICA NORTE" (English)

English translation "PANORÁMICA NORTE"

From the top of  "el Risco" to the north, some of the highest elevations of the Western Iberian System are observed; they emphasize the peaks of Urbión (6), place of birth of the Duero, and the Sierra Cebollera (7). To the east, on clear days you can see the unmistakable silhouette of Pico del Moncayo (2,314 masl) (14).

Santa Lucía eco-archaeological park is a project aimed at enhancing the environmental, archaeological, ecological and landscape interest of the Risco de Andaluz. We count on your collaboration to keep it in top condition!

Risco Ecosystem

Its almost exclusive use for pastures of sheep has led to a predominance of shrub plants, many of them aromatic, such as thyme, lavender, aliagas, rock tea, rockrose ... and more scattered trees such as sabina albar and juniper which, due to their origin from the pre-glacial steppe forests, have a great ability to adapt both to the low winter temperatures and to the summer droughts typical of this place. The western part, which has traditionally had a lower livestock use, retains a greater predominance of trees.

In the hollows of the Risco and in the refuges provided by its vegetation, mammals such as the badger, the marten and the genet find shelter, also giving shelter to the nests of small birds such as Black Redstart, Eurasian Crag Martin, Hoopoe, Partridge, etc. . The proximity of wooded areas makes it a transit area for wild animals such as roe deer, foxes and wild boar.

Archaeological information

The geological formation on which you are located is one of the cretaceous pedrizas (145 - 66.4 m.a.) that emerge along the Duero basin and that have arranged the ideal place for the defense of the territory. It is not hard to imagine why the first known human settlement of what is now Andaluz, dated in the Copper Age or Chalcolithic (IV - III millennium BC), was placed under your feet ...

At that time itinerant groups began to arrive on a regular basis, attracted by the advantages offered by the basins of the Andalusian and Douro rivers, as they are suitable areas for livestock, with possibilities for agriculture, hunting and gathering.

The material culture that has been documented in Andaluz corresponding to these chronologies are flakes and sheets of flint with hardly any retouching, polished stone axes related to the felling of trees, and handmade ceramics of reducing cooking, very rough, decorated with laces applied and impressions on its edge whose chronology can extend until the beginning of the Bronze Age.
