In these territories near the Douro river, after the conversion of Medinaceli into the capital of the Marca Media (border) of Al Andalus in the year 946, an important defensive military network was established taking advantage of the natural routes and partly the Roman road from Occilis (Medinaceli) to Uxama (Osma) used by the Arab armies to access the Douro villages and harass the Castilian positions.
This military network was made up of fortresses (Medinaceli, Barahona, Berlanga de Duero, Gormaz, Osma, Atienza), minor fortifications, and watchtowers operating as links between the two previous types.
Once the Christian domain of these territories was recovered, starting in 1088, the repopulation was started through Jurisdictions, legal statutes that guaranteed security to its inhabitants.
The FUEROS DE ANDALUZ, the first in Soria province dated in Burgos in the year 1089, were granted to Andaluz people during the reign of Alfonso VI by the Castilian Count D. Gonzalo Núñez de Lara.
