Panel "CASTILLO DE ANDALUZ" (English)

"Andaluz castle" panel translation (Parque eco-arqueológico Santa Lucía):

At this place you can see the remains of the masonry foundations of a rectangular-shaped fortress 25 meters on each side that, according to Clemente Sáenz and Florentino Zamora, had to have a tower in the northwest corner and a cistern in the opposite one.

It is to be supposed that this was an especially important enclave on the Duero border during the Reconquista due to its strategic position on the Duero bridge and the narrow passage that it kept.

It is almost certain, although it is not reflected in the chronicles, that by the year 1060 Andaluz was already in Christian domination, thanks to the occupation of the area in the expedition of Ferdinand I.

There is the documentary evidence of a woman, coming from the castle called Handaluz, who at the end of the eleventh century was transferred to the monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos and was healed by the saint (Valcárcel, 1982: 486).
